                              Questions you should be asking to find a competent installer

                                          #1 Does your installer know what CRI 105 is?

                                                  The industry Standard for Carpet Installation is covered in the document CRI 105.  You can find this

                                                  standard at www.iicrc.org,  the website for the Carpet and Rug  Institute. Ask your installer what CRI 105

                                                  is, and see if they have a copy on hand.  Shaw will not warranty carpets that are not installed to these

                                                  specifications. (Note: CRI 104 refers to commercial carpets, and future installation standards will

                                                  be S600)

 

                                            #2 Does your installer use duct  tape on the noses of steps?

                                                  Properly applied, duct tape on the noses of your steps extends the life of both your carpet and pad.

                                                  The step nose is where most of the wear happens on a step.

 

                                             #3 Is your installer using a wall-to-wall power stretcher?

                                                   The industry Standard states the proper carpet installation must be done with a wall-to-wall power

                                                   stretcher, NOT a knee-kicker or a spike stretcher. The manufacture’s warranty on your carpet may not

                                                   apply to carpet that is improperly installed.  Make sure your carpet installer is using the proper 

                                                   equipment for the job.

 

                                              #4 Is your installer using tack strip properly?

                                                    Make sure that your installer is not using 3/4″ wide tack strip.  It’s cheaper, but it is not an industry

                                                    recognized standard. 1″ or 2″ wide tack strip provides the necessary grip for a stretch the will last.

                                                    Also, make sure your installer is not using tack strip at doorways where carpet meets a hard surface.

                                                    Industry standards say that the carpet should be rolled, or metal should be used.

 

                                             #5 Does your installer give more than a one-year warranty on the stretch of the carpet?

                                                  Factory defects are one thing, but improper installation is another.  A properly trained carpet installer

                                                  should stand behind his or her work, and a properly stretched carpet should last for more than just a year. 

                                                  Rohr’s Carpet  gives s 10 year wrinkle free warranty o conditios.n our carpet installation, but there are conditions.

                                                  The warranty is voided on carpet that is subject to water disasters, fire, improper car and maintenance,

                                                  pets, and unsanitary conditions. To initially receive this warranty, the carpet must be laid flat for 24 hours, 

                                                  and the surrounding temperature must be 70 degrees F or higher before stretching installation.  Factory

                                                 defects are covered by the factory warranty (for example, soft back carpets come with their own 10 year

                                                 wrinkle free warranty from the factory).

 

                                              #6 Does your installer use seam sealer on all seams?

                                                   Just as important as style and color are to you, proper padding or a better pad is important to extending

                                                   the life of your carpet.  We carry the standard 6lb. and 8lb. rebound pad(1/2″ thickness).  We also carry

                                                   Triple Touch pad – which doubles your texture retention warranty – in 8lb. and 10lb.
